Going 'Poo Free

So a lot of bloggers have started talking about going poo free. Simple Mom is the go-to blog for information on the poo free lifestyle if you have any questions.

My hair has been really .... blegh lately and I have been unsatisfied with my plethora of hair products. See Exhibit A:

Yeah I used all this crap in my hair. I have a clarifying shampoo, a red hair dye conditioner that looks like blood, Well color shampoo and conditioner and Matrix shampoo and conditioner. I also have a Neutrogena hair mask and some Aussie moisturizing conditioner.

Basically you replace your shampoo with baking soda and water and your conditioner with apple cider vinegar and water. For every 8 ounces, you mix 1 tsp of the baking soda and the vinegar.

This is the final result. Super high tech, right?

I have heard a lot of people loving the poo free lifestyle and I am excited to give it a go. I have no idea how this will work out for me, I know there is a transition period where you hair looks like crap but it pretty much looks like crap now anyways so why not give it a go?

Has anyone tried going poo free? What are your thoughts?

    1. Thanks- I am starting it tomorrow. I was all excited to get into the shower and do my business and then I discovered my boyfriend totally drank my "shampoo" thinking it was a simple water bottle. Best part is he totally did not notice and drank it all. Gotta love 'em.

    3. mmm yeah I did and he didn't really know what baking soda was and we were in this parking lot and I made a dramatic pulling out of my parking spot and I was like "We need to get to the hospital now. We need the antidote!" (I've secretly always wanted to say that) But then he got scared so I told him it was harmless. The 5 seconds of terror was totally worth it though.

    1. Perfect for summer! It is really fitting into my gross/sweaty/homeless look that this 95 degree weather has inspired.

  4. You know, I've tried doing this for about a month actually, and for whatever reason my hair gets all gunky instead of really squeaky clean. I don't know why. I do have really oily skin in general. But i think the actual culprit is that the water out here is SO HARD! i mean it is SO hard that there is a lot of residue in my hair from it that will never go away. what i've been doing lately instead of shampoo (or the baking soda/vinegar method) is just using handmade soap (thanks to my mom) it is just oil and lye (no soap without lye!) and it seems to be doing okay. not as gunky. but still kinda... clumpy. i dunno. i think if you live in a city with soft water this would be great! so... good luck! but if you have hard water like me well.. yeah..
